PETITION TO THE KENOSHA COUNTY PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION, RANDALL TOWN BOARD and the SMART GROWTH COMMITTEE OF TWIN LAKES/RANDALL:

We, the undersigned, do hereby petition each of you to express our opposition to the proposal by Thelen Sand and Gravel Company to develop a 450-acre Sand and Gravel open pit mine at a site in Randall Township located between Highway C and Highway F and bordered along Highway KD.

The proposed mine is located in an area that is currently zoned Agricultural and which is surrounded on all sides by single family homes, many with senior citizens or young children.

Sand and Gravel mining is a heavy polluting industry that does not fit into the community, which is primarily rural and a residential bedroom community. It creates air pollution which has serious negative health consequences, particularly for children and the elderly. It creates noise, an eyesore, vibration and dust that destroys the values of the community. It has the potential to disrupt the water table and will negatively impact property values of hundreds of homeowners. The proposed use does not fit into this community nor the values set forth in the Smart Growth plan, nor the expressed wishes of the residents of the community as set forth in the Smart Growth survey results.
